The Japanese women’s volleyball team, aiming to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, held a press conference in Tokyo on April 11. Head coach Ferhat Akbas shared his ambitions, stating, “Our main goal is to secure an Olympic berth through the shortest possible route. I believe we can do it.” If the team wins the Asian Championship in China this August, they will earn direct qualification for the Olympics.
The preliminary squad of 37 players includes high school and university students. In his second year at the helm, Akbas explained, “It is important to give young players opportunities. We also want to focus on those who will carry the future of Japanese volleyball.”
The team will participate in the Volleyball Nations League starting in June, followed by the Asian Games in Nagoya, Aichi, in September.
