Michigan will open its 2026-27 season and title defense in Boston with a rematch of the national championship game against UConn on Nov. 6.
According to multiple reports, Wolverines head coach Dusty May and Huskies head coach Dan Hurley have agreed to the game and venue, with only official signatures remaining before the programs make the announcement.
Michigan defeated UConn 69-63 in the fourth all-time meeting between the teams during the Final Four in Indianapolis in April. The victory gave the Wolverines their second basketball national title, powered by guard Elliot Cadeau’s 19 points.
After a regular season fueled by fresh faces and transfers, Michigan won the Big Ten and spent most of the final two months ranked in the top three nationally. This offseason, May must replace key players, including All-American Yaxel Lendeborg, power forward Morez Johnson, and 7-foot-4 center Aday Mara.
Both rosters will look significantly different from the title game. UConn will move on without three-time national championship participant Alex Karaban, leading scorer Tarris Reed Jr., and Malachi Smith, all of whom have exhausted their college eligibility.
The game marks the first men’s college basketball national title rematch the following season since Villanova-Michigan in 2018 and only the second since Duke-Butler in 2010.
